How to choose UHF rfid tags in the project

The UHF RFID tag market has a wide range of application scenarios and has the advantages of long identification distance, fast data transmission speed, high reliability, long service life, and resistance to harsh outdoor environments. It can be used for asset management, production line management, supply chain management, warehousing, anti-counterfeiting traceability of various commodities (such as tobacco, wine, medicine, etc.), retail, vehicle management, etc.

At present, the common UHF RFID air interface protocols in China include international standards, national standards, industry standards, and enterprise standards. The most popular standards are the 6C and 6D standards, namely ISO/IEC18000-6C(63), ISO/IEC18000-6D(64) In addition, the Chinese national standard officially implemented GB/T29768-2013 in May 2014.

The definition of the frequency band of UHF electronic tags is different in the world, such as 840~8444MHz and 920~924MHz, EU frequency band 865MHz~868MHz, Japan frequency band 952MHz~954MHz Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore 920MHz~925MHz, 902MHz~928MHz.

  1. Environmental issues of label application

Especially UHF RFID products, metals and liquids have a great influence on their performance. Therefore, the application environment is metal or non-metal, liquid or plastic, glass, wood, etc., is the primary consideration.

The direct influence of raw materials on the radio frequency signal: the direct influence of metal on the radio frequency signal The radio frequency signal of the RFID tag has an influence. In metal objects or working environments with many metals, anti-metal electronic tags must be used to reduce the influence of metals on the data signals of tags and facilitate the normal use of electronic tags for RFID.

The performance of UHF RFID tags is easily affected by the environment. If it is necessary to determine whether the product is suitable for the actual application environment, the performance that must be directly used for object testing has reference value in the early test stage.

  1. Factors Affecting Label Recognition Distance

The reading distance is also directly related to the reader and the antenna. It is necessary to clarify the installation position and angle of the tag and the antenna of the reader. At the same time, power selection, antenna gain, polarization mode and radiation angle need to be considered.

In the entire RFID system, every detail may affect the actual reading distance, whether it can finally meet the project requirements, and even the length of the feeder (the cable connecting the antenna and the reader) needs to be considered.

Third, understand the understanding of label size

In our experience with many projects in the past, customers often want the labels to be small in size, both aesthetically pleasing and easy to install.

However, the size of the label is one of the main factors that determine the performance of the label. Generally speaking, the larger the size, the better the label performance design, the different manufacturers, different models and specifications, the integrated IC production process is different from the antenna manufacturing process, and the price is also different. Consumers should choose based on actual usage and cost budget.

  1. Other considerations

In addition, there are details of other considerations, such as: Does the tag have environmental reliability requirements such as temperature resistance and humidity resistance? How much data capacity does the tag need to write? What is the maximum number of tags that can be read at one time?
